Hard Story mode
Successfully complete Story mode under the normal difficulty setting.

Super Hard Story mode
Successfully complete Very Hard Story mode.

Super Hard songs
In free mode, complete any song under Very Hard mode with a score of "C" or better to unlock Super Hard on that song.

While playing in Free mode, to unlock the Super Hard difficulty setting you must clear the song at the Very Hard Difficulty setting.

Flight of the S.S. Brass mini-game
Successfully complete EX Story mode as Mario.

Note Pickup mini-game
Successfully complete EX Story mode as Luigi.

Coin Collection mini-game
Successfully complete EX Story mode.

Whee! mini-game
Successfully complete Story or EX Story mode as Luigi.

Extra songs
Play them in Story mode.

In order to unlock bonus songs, complete regular story mode, and while playing through the extended version you can purchase the song in the shops in each level except for level 5.

Choir song on the Green in Free mode
Play EX Story mode. The song is now unlocked for purchase in the World 1 shop for 100 Coins.

Hop, Mario! Song in Free mode
Play EX Story mode. The song is now unlocked for purchase in the World 2 shop for 200 Coins.

Where's the Exit? song in Free mode
Play EX Story mode. The song is now unlocked for purchase in the World 3 shop for 300 Coins.
